The Rheinpark mall opened its doors for business in Swiss St. Margrethen in the 70s. Three decades later, the mall no longer met the discerning tastes of its shoppers. The lighting concept and the clarity of the mall’s arrangement were the focus during the modernization. The designers ensured natural lighting and easy orientation for shoppers by means of an elliptical opening in the center of the building that extends across stories. All retail levels can be reached via long, gradually inclining escalators. Thanks to its comprehensive energy-saving modernization, Rheinpark is now one of the most modern malls in Switzerland and is able to operate with practically no use of fossil fuels.
