Subsidized Passive House Building Project Receives Energy Globe Vienna Award
The "Haus am Muehlweg" project in Vienna, which in 2007 was awarded the renowned energy prize Energy Globe Vienna Award, was developed by building contractor Austria Immobilien GmbH in conjunction with, among others, architects Dietrich│Untertrifaller Architekten. The 200 or so residents in the rented accommodation, funded with public money, benefit not least from a healthy living environment. High-quality building materials (primarily cross-laminated wood panels) were used, a rockwool vacuum insulation ensures low energy consumption and a solar power system on the roof provides heating and hot water. Thanks to the intensive use of industrial prefabrication for the supporting timber structure and facade, the construction costs per square meter (subsidized) were < 1,100 euros, and tenants pay just 6.14 euros per square meter including service charges.
